Torbay Hospital and The Horizon Centre

The Anaesthetic Department at Torbay Hospital is active in providing simulation based education to a wide variety of staff members. Final Year PCMD students, Foundation Doctors and Anaesthetic Trainees to name but a few.

Since acquiring the Laerdal SimNewB we have been running a Training the Trainers course to develop faculty so that simulation scenarios can be built into the Special Care Baby Unit study days.

In December 2004 Torbay was chosen to be one of just five flagship National Centres for Inovation and Training. A multi-disciplinary facility for skill training and simulation. Opened in 2009 – The Horizon Centre is our exciting new innovation, education and research facility based at Torbay Hospital. Serving the NHS workforce, the aim of the Centre is to provide a state of the art environment where people can explore new ideas, learn new techniques and observe and reflect on clinical practice together.
